» Goals: past, present & future :

Grunden Bois is a club that is governed by the players themselves. The club has a board and different workgroups.Examples of such workgroups, among many, are: The information committee, the sponsor committee, the supporter committee and the entertainment division. The active players of Grunden Bois are the ones that have formed the now existing rules on how to treat one and other. The rules first and foremost puts the emphasis on fellowship, most importantly by means of not turning anyone down, no matter what level of handicap or nack for sports he or she might have. By doing so we hope to improve the integration and spirit within the club, as well as the handicapped community as a whole, meaning: that anyone who feels compelled to join the club is welcome to be a part of the Grunden Bois family, as we like to call it.

This is what makes us unique in Sweden, and what has enabled us to become the biggest club for people with intellectual handicaps. But the idea that drives Grunden Bois is not solely that of winning titles and exceeding at sport. For some members with particularly severe handicaps, that is simply an unrealistic and unfair goal to say the least. The most important thing we can hope to give these players is a truly fun thing to devote their spare time to. We have concludedly found that socialising with others in a friendly environment, and working together towards a common goal is the best means of providing a healthy and meaningful existence for people with intellectual disadvantages. So, instead of merely providing a spare time chore artificially just because the people in question are facing certain obstacles you gain "everything" by being a part of Bois.

To gather and train on ones own terms gives a vast number of rewards, besides just athletic achievement; Better physique, boost in self- confidence, a greater sense of compassion for others, a healthier perception of your own body, you learn how to show your consideration and respect towards others, learn how to interact with others in a place of democracy (meaning we are all equals on and off the pitch), but one of the most important things we an hope to impart these people with is the feeling of being needed - to feel important. So instead of incessantly being told what to do and when to do it, we would surely like to see every person involved becoming more independent and feeling more in control of his/her own life to a certain extent. For example, we don't feel the need to compel you to walk around in a study circle all day and force- feeding you obvious things like "The soap is your friend. Use it!" We feel that you have to give the players some wiggle room to figure things out for themselves.

SPORTS: Grunden Bois is mainly known for their football activities, but have since recently also been accompanied by floor hockey. At the moment we have a total of 270 players. The age range of our athletes varies greatly, from the ages of 6 and up -male or female - we essentially have people from all generations represented in our different teams. At the moment, Grunden Bois training sessions are held in 2 different locations; one being Kviber's sports center and the other one is "Rosendals hallen".
